Pieter Dhoore

Mahler Piano Duo

Laurent Beeckmans

Pieter was born in 1983 in Ghent (Belgium). He got his first piano lessons from Alfonso Medinilla. Afterwards he continued his piano studies with Filip Martens, Katrijn Friant, Sabine Haenebalcke and finally at the Brussels Conservatory with Boyan Vodenitcharov, where he graduated with diplomes of 'Master in Music' and pedagogy.

Pieter took masterclasses in Belgium and abroad with renowned pianists, to mention Jan Michiels, Patricia Montero, Pilar Valero, J.J. Pérez Torrecillas, Ueli Wiget and Timur Sergeyenia.

Since 1996, Pieter forms a duo with the recorder player Jan Van Hoecke, with which he mainly performs contemporary work. In 2006 they won the 3rd Prize and the audience award in the 6th National Music Competition Rotary Ghent, which earned them concerts in e.g. Handelsbeurs in Ghent and AMUZ in Antwerp. Composers Janpieter Biesemans, Blaise Ubaldini, Kevin Juillerat and Ann Eysermans already dedicated new works for the duo. In 2009 they cooperated to a CD recording for Champ d'Action with a work of Luc Brewaeys.

In 2007, he was the dedicatee of the piano work Eskapaden by the Belgian composer Janpieter Biesemans, which he later proudly created in CC De Muze in Meise. Later there followed a official CD-recording with a selection from his output, on which Pieter performed his Nocturne opus 1.

As a soloist with symphonic orchestra, Pieter performed Prokofiev’s 3rd piano concerto in June 2009. Moreover he already gave dozens of solo recitals, in which he often performs works by lesser-known composers. Recently he carried out an experiment around the composer K.S. Sorabji, especially notorious for his very complex and multi-layered piano music.

Pieter regards his role as a teacher as an important part of his career and does this since years with great pleasure. He attempts to communicate his passion to his pupils and wishes to be an inspiration for them. Currently, Pieter teaches the piano at the Art Academies of Eeklo and Lede (Belgium).
